If you care about what happens to your property after you die, you should make a will. Without one, the State directs who inherits, so your friends, favourite charities and relatives may get nothing. It is particularly important to make a will if:

• You have children
• You have others who are dependent upon you
• Your permanent home is not in the UK, but you own assets here
• You have overseas property
• You own all or part of a business

1. So that you can decide who will inherit your possessions and money. Without a will, the money may not go to the people you would like it to.

3. To indicate what arrangements you would like for your children to be looked after, in the event that both parents were to die at the same time.
